I'm so glad to have found this site.  For 30 years (since age 13) I've loved David Warner's work.  He is a magnificent artist who brings great power and sensitivity to his roles.  I discovered him in "Time After Time" in 1980 and was amazed by the complexity of his Jack the Ripper.  He was despicable but one couldn't help feel empathy for his tortured personality -- that part of him wanted to stop the evil that drove him but couldn't.

In 2001 I had the great good luck to see DW twice in his Broadway debut in Shaw's "Major Barbara".  It took alot of courage for him to return to the stage after so long an absence.  He was superb and looked so comfortable onstage. And to hear that beautiful voice live - my God!  I met him afterward at the stage door.  Such a lovely, sweet, modest man.  My second trip to the play happened to be his birthday and I brought him a bouquet of roses.  He seemed really touched.

I look forward to getting to know the members here and discussing all things DW. :)

Hi, Melissa! Nice to have you! Thanks for sharing your story. You're so lucky to have had the chance to meet him - and twice! Ohhhh, how I envy you... :) I agree about his voice... Like butter! I, too, became a fan when I saw him in "Time After Time." I don't think anyone has come close to portraying Jack the Ripper as well as David Warner.

Hey, welcome to the site!!! Oh wow, Melissa! You really met him! OMG!!!! I wish I would meet him somewhere, too.! David is indeed such a lovely modest man. I became a fan 15 years ago. The first movie I discovered him was "Time Bandits". Such a sweet baddie, isn´t he? And his voice.....yes, as Cheryl said, like butter. It makes you melting away! LOL :) Have you already seen "Albert´s Memorial"? It´s a must! The tall one and the shorty! Adorable, though it was a serious topic. BTW, thanks a lot for sharing your experiences!
